Announcing the Launch of ANSTEP
Asian Network for Science and Technology Policy |
Asian countries’ economic growth, international competitiveness,
and contribution to global society depend on their development of
knowledge-based economies built on Science & Technology.
Appropriate S&T policies informed by knowledge of one’s own
and other countries can do much to promote this development.
Currently, however, the S&T statistics, activities, and policies of
the region’s countries are very difficult to access comprehensively
and compare meaningfully.
ANSTEP is an open-access infrastructure that aims to solve this
problem by compiling and making freely available internationally
comparable S&T information.
Anyone can access ANSTEP to find information on the S&T activities
and policies of various Asian countries. And all are invited to contribute
to the evolution of ANSTEP by introducing country data or presenting
analyses from a new viewpoint. |
ANSTEP activities: |
- To build and maintain an information network on
the S&T activities and policies of Asian countries;
- To build online links among organizations concerned with
S&T policy and research;
- To build a database on S&T activities and policies;
- To hold international workshops;
- To publish periodic reports on Asian S&T indicators and policy outlooks. |

ANSTEP was formed by
JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency),
GRIPS (National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies), and
NISTEP (the National Institute of Science and Technology
Policy of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology).
ANSTEP is operated primarily by GRIPS. |
